Wine has reunited what politics has divided. More than a millennium of history unite the wine culture of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto. United in the Terra d’Otranto by Emperor Frederick II in the 13th century, they remained together through the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and survived even the unification of Italy. In the 1920s they became three separate provinces, on paper. The rows of wine vines and centuries-old olive trees, the dry stone walls and prickly pears, the imposing masserias, ancient farm houses,  and breathtakingly beautiful beaches, the ancient villages where Baroque architecture flourishes were and remain the wine civilization of the Terra d’Otranto. It is also a favourite tourist destination.
