Salento PGI since 1995

Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto are once again united in the collection of wines with PGI  (Protected Geographical Indication) called Salento.

Wine color: white, red, rosé

Alcohol content: from 9.50% up to 15% depending on typology

Characteristic of: the whole provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto

Grape varieties: about 50 varieties both native and international

Wine is capable of reuniting what politics has separated. Salento, from the 13th century onwards to the 1920s, was a single territory in which there was Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto. It is no coincidence, then, that the Protected Geographical Indication called Salento PGI  corresponds precisely to the territories of these three provincial capitals Lecce, Taranto and Brindisi.

The wind between the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas cradles common traditions such as the popular dance of the pizzica and the tarantella, the fires and the tables laid for St. Joseph’s Day, the vines planted with trees, the trulli, the typical dry stones houses with coned roof, and the dry stone walls, the sandy beaches and the cliffs, up to the Salentine litany of the beautiful dialects of these lands where the sun and the light are inimitable.

The indication on the label of the variety for Salento PGI requires the use of at least 85% of the grapes belonging to the indicated variety.

The typologies envisaged by the production regulations are:

  • SALENTO PGI White, also Sparkling, Spumante Charmat Method, Overripe Grapes, Raisin wine
  • SALENTO PGI Red, also Sparkling, Overripe Grapes, Raisin Wine, Nouveau
  • SALENTO PGI Rosé, Sparkling, Spumante Charmat Method, Nouveau
