Grape varieties: for the white 50-70% Trebbiano Toscano, 50-100% Primitivo di Gioia for the red and rosé with the remaining 50-60% Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Negroamaro or 10% Malvasia Nera.
Let’s start exploring this fascinating area of the Bari Murgia, the one of the of the trulli, the Apulian traditional dry stone houses with coned roof. One of the imposing castles of Emperor Frederick II dominates the scene, around which the famous Primitivo grape variety thrives. It is from the 17th century onwards that the Primitivo vine spreads in Apulia, apparently thanks to the work of Benedictine monks, starting here in the Bari Murgia and continuing its successful expansion southwards into Salento.
The typologies provided for in the production regulations are:
Gioia del Colle PDO White is produced from a blend of 50% to 70% Trebbiano Toscano grapes. It is characterized by a colour tending to straw, a fruity and delicate aroma, and a dry, fresh, well balanced taste.
Alcohol Content: 11,50%
Gioia del Colle PDO red requires 50%-60% Primitivo grapes and in the glass it has a delicate ruby red colour, a slightly vinous aroma, with a characteristic fruity perfume when young and a dry, fresh, well balanced and pleasant taste.
Alcohol Content: 11%
Gioia del Colle PDO Rosé is the expression of 50-60% Primitivo grapes, it fascinates for its delicate ruby red colour, its slightly vinous and fruity bouquet, its dry, fresh, well balanced and pleasant taste.
Alcohol Content: 10,50%
Gioia del Colle PDO Primitivo makes the difference thanks to the velvety power of 100% of the famous Primitivo di Gioia del Colle grapes in which you can perceive the fertile nature of the woods of the area. The appearance is red tending to purple and orange with aging. The nose presents a light characteristic aroma. At the palate it is pleasant, full, well balanced and tending towards velvety with ageing.
Alcohol Content: 13%
Gioia del Colle PDO Aleatico Natural Sweet requires a minimum of 85% Aleatico grapes and the wine has a more or less intense garnet red color, with violet reflections, tending toward orange with ageing, a delicate characteristic aroma that blends with the perfume that the wine acquires with ageing, a full, moderately sweet and velvety taste.
Total Alcohol: 15%
Gioia del Colle PDO Aleatico Liqueur-Like requires a minimum of 85% of Aleatico grapes and the wine has a more or less intense garnet red colour with violet reflections, tending to orange with ageing, a delicate characteristic scent that blends with the perfume that the wine acquires with ageing, a full, warm, sweet, well balanced and pleasant taste.
