Centuries of history have settled the Salento culture of the three territories now enclosed in the provinces of Lecce, Taranto and Brindisi. They were united on the initiative of Frederick II in the far 13th century until the last century. Taranto broke away from Lecce in 1923 and Brindisi in 1927. A thousand years of history, and of common climatic conditions characterized by the scarcity of water, have sculpted in the wind the vineyards and olive groves between the two seas Jonio and Adriatico. The Terra d’Otranto has only one soul, in which Negroamaro reigns supreme. In the Tacco d’Italia, for Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto DOP, all types of grapes can be dried on the vine or on mats or in boxes, even in the fruttaio under controlled conditions of temperature, humidity and ventilation.

The typologies envisaged by the production regulations are:

  • Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO Red, also Riserva
  • Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO Rosé, also Spumante Charmat Method and Sparkling
