It is a truly age-old knowledge that flows into Nardò PDO with its four expertly blended grape varieties. The goodness of the wines of this area was already known in ancient times and in Salento the vine was already cultivated in the 8th century BC during the Greek colonization. Viticulture reached moments of glory when, during the Roman domination, emperors chose Apulian wines for their best banquets.

Nardò was conquered by the Romans in 269 B.C. with its port Emporium Nauna (probably the present S. Maria al Bagno) and was crossed by the Via Traiana. After the fall of the Empire came the devastation of the Goths, Lombards and Saracens. But then viticulture flourished and, from the ports of Apulia, by the end of the 18th century wine was already reaching the rest of Europe. Today it is exported all over the world and this is a very touristic area.

The typologies envisaged by the production regulations are:

  • Nardò PDO Red, also Reserve
  • Nardò PDO Rosé

Tasting notes

The Nardò PDO Red revolves around 80% Negroamaro with other indigenous grapes wisely dosed by the winemakers.

In the glass it has a more or less intense ruby red colour, a vinous and intense bouquet and a dry, well balanced  and slightly bitterish taste.

Alcohol Content: 11,50%

Nardò PDO Red Reserve goes through an ageing period of at least two years before being ready. In the glass it reveals a ruby red colour with orange tones, a vinous perfume, intense and ethereal, a dry taste, full-bodied, rightly tannic, velvety and well balanced.

Alcohol Content: 12,50%

The Nardò PDO Rosé expresses the delicate caress of a wine with a coral pink color just turned to light cherry, with a vinous perfume, delicate, characteristic and slightly young on the palate.

Alcohol Content: 11,50%
