So varied are the hills of the Murgia and so wide is the possibility of modulating the PGI wine that bears its name. The climate is more or less rigid depending on whether it is near or far from the sea, the evocative landscape is made homogeneous by the beauty of the vines interspersed with dry stone walls. The etymology of the word Murgia comes from the Latin murice, the murex a marine animale and then sasso appuntito, pointed stone.
The stones are also the habitat where the typical cardoncello mushroom of this wooded area grows. The more you go down from BAT towards Bari, the more trulli, traditional dry stone huts with conical roofs, increase.
The Murgia PGI states that the indication on the label of the variety requires the use of at least 85% of the grapes belonging to the variety indicated.
