Castel del Monte PDO since 1971

The octagonal manor of Emperor Frederick II is surrounded by the vineyards of the  Castel del Monte PDO,  that encircle it like a crown.

Wine color: white, red, rosé

Alcohol content: from 10,50% up to 13% depending on typology

Characteristic of: the whole territory of Minervino Murge (BAT), part of Andria, Canosa di Puglia, Trani (BAT); part of Binetto, Bitonto, Corato, Palo del Colle, Ruvo di Puglia, Terlizzi, Toritto (Bari).

Grape varieties:  Pampanuto, Chardonnay or Bombino Bianco  up to 100% in the white. Nero di Troia, Aglianico or Montepulciano up to 100% in the red. Bombino Nero , Aglianico or Nero di Troia up to 100% in the rosé.


Behind a single PDO label, many wines for Castel del Monte PDO. Historically, it was among the first Apulian wines to cross borders in its bottle and label: back in 1895 it won the Milan wine show, and in 1910 it was awarded at the International Agricultural Expo in Buenos Aires. Along with this prestigious wine, Apulia‘s culture and history also travel: its name, Castel del Monte PDO is inspired by the octagonal manor of Frederick II of Swabia, which stands out as a UNESCO site and has been surrounded by vines for centuries.

Tasting notes

Castel del Monte PDO White is obtained from grapes up to 100% Pampanuto (or Pampanino) or up to 100% Chardonnay or up to 100% Bombino Bianco.
In the glass, Castel del Monte PDO White has a more or less intense straw yellow colour, a pleasing, delicate aroma and a zesty taste, ranging from dry to medium dry.

Castel del Monte PDO Sparkling White, has a fine, evanescent froth, a more or less intense straw yellow colour, a delicate, fruity aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste.

 

Alcohol Content: 11%

 

Castel del Monte PDO Spumante Charmat Method White has a fine, persistent froth, a more or less intense straw yellow colour with possible golden reflections, a fragrant, complex aroma, characteristic of double fermentation, and a fresh, zesty, fine, well balanced to medium sweet taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Red is an expression of Nero di Troia up to 100%, Aglianico up to 100%, Montepulciano up to 100%.

Castel del Monte PDO Red has a ruby red to garnet red colour, a pleasing, distinctive aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste

Castel del Monte PDO Nouveau Red has a more or less intense ruby red colour, an intense, pleasing, distinctive aroma and a dry to medium sweet, distinctive taste.

The Castel del Monte PDO Rosé, also Sparkling and Spumante Charmat Method, is the pleasantness of wines that caress the eyes, nose and palate where for these types stand out the Bombino Nero grapes up to 100%, or Aglianico up to 100% or Nero di Troia up to 100%.

Castel del Monte PDO Rosè  has a more or less intense rosé colour, a distinctive fruity aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Sparkling Rosé has a fine, evanescent froth, a more or less pale pink colour, a delicate, fruity aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced, distinctive taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Spumante Charmat Method  Rosé,  fascinates with its fine and persistent foam. The rosé colour is more or less intense. The aroma is fragrant, complex, characteristic of double fermentation. At the palate is fresh, savoury, fine, well balanced and medium sweet.

Castel del Monte PDO  Bombino Bianco has a more or less intense straw yellow colour, a delicate, characteristic, fruity aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Bombino Bianco  Sparkling  is characterized by a fine, evanescent froth, a more or less intense straw yellow colour, a delicate, fruity aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Bombino Bianco Spumante Charmat Method  , on the other hand, has a fine, persistent froth, a more or less intense straw yellow colour with golden hues, a fragrant, complex aroma, characteristic of double fermentation, and a fresh, zesty, fine, well balanced, to medium sweet taste.

Castel del Monte PDO  Chardonnay has a more or less intense straw yellow colour, a delicate, distinctive, fruity aroma and a dry to medium dry, full, well balanced taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Cabernet Reserve has a ruby red colour tending toward garnet red with ageing, a pleasing characteristic aroma and a dry to medium sweet, well balanced taste.

Castel del Monte PDO Cabernet Reserve wine has a minimum mandatory ageing period of at least two years, one of which must be in wooden barrels.
